The National Conference of Vietnamese American Attorneys (NCVAA) is pleased to announce that the 10th Annual Conference will be held on October 14-15, 2016 in San Jose, California. The 2016 conference will take place in conjunction with the Vietnamese American Bar Association of Northern California’s (VABANC) 18th Annual Scholarship Dinner on Friday, October 14, 2016.
VABANC is honored to co-host the combined event this year as NCVAA returns to San Jose, where VABANC co-hosted the very first conference in 2006.
This year’s conference, based on the theme “Innovate,” provides an opportunity for attendees to network with attorneys, members of the judiciary, prominent legal scholars, jurists, and law students from all over the nation. Attorneys can receive valuable continuing legal education (CLE) credits on a number of stimulating current topics taught by scholars and practitioners.

New York State Courts Gay Pride Event, June 28
I know we are all reeling from the insanity of this indescribably horrific tragedy in Orlando, and we all feel the pain. It is terrible and hard to fathom. But I am a big believer in celebrating life, particularly in the face of something like this. If we lose our hearts, if we forget the celebrate the beauty of the world and of coming together, then we have truly lost. With that in mind, I ask you all to bring some joy with you along with the hurt I know is echoed in each of us. Think about how much love and support have been given so freely and genuinely by Americans everywhere in this time of grief. It is clear that the people of our nation have grown so much in recent years and that LGBT Americans are finding greater and greater acceptance and respect. It is impossible to not feel moved by the outpouring of love and inclusiveness by all Americans, gay, straight, all skin tones, all cultures, all religions.
Thank you for all your hard work.
So, to brighten the spirits, we have arranged for a festive meal from the fantastic Il Cortile restaurant on Mulberry Street – you are in for a treat, so don’t eat dinner before. Breath of Life: Paintings by Yoo Geun-Taek
Yoo Geun-Taek is a leading contemporary painter known for uniting traditional ink-and-wash painting techniques with the Korean post-modernist approach of the mid-1990s and 2000s. In contrast to the idealized objects usually found in traditional ink-wash painting (Sumukhwa), Yoo’s art depicts the emotional quality of the workaday world—and often uncovers joy in the chaos and clutter of modern life. His paintings depict the everyday experience of the individual, and include intimate views of domestic life and nature. These visual elements have remained steadfast throughout his artistic career.
Yoo has been the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the “Today’s Young Artist Award” by the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Korea (2003) and the “Suk Nam Cultural Foundation Award” (2000). His work has been presented in international exhibitions and is held in numerous public collections, including White Rabbit (Australia), the Cheng Du Contemporary Art Museum (China), the National Museum of Contemporary Art (Korea), the Leeum Samsung Museum (Korea), and the Jeju Museum of Art (Korea).
This exhibition is presented in collaboration with the Dongwha Cultural Foundation.
