What one piece of advice would you give to a prospective in-house counsel? Working at a company is much more political, in much more complicated ways, than working at a firm. That is often the biggest challenge for an attorney transitioning in-house. Network internally, find a mentor and learn the politics.

If not an attorney, what would you wish to be? I would like to be a UFC fighter.

Austin is the Division General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at Heraeus, Inc., a multi-billion dollar company headquartered in Germany with legal operations in Pennsylvania. In addition to his professional success, Austin has been a long time supporter of AABANY and mentor to many attorneys in the Asian American community. He is currently Co-Chair of the AABANY In-House Counsel Committee and Northeast Regional Governor for the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association. Austin serves as Executive Director of the Don H. Liu Scholars Program, which seeks to identify and cultivate future Asian American leaders of the legal profession. 

He was also named one of The Legal Intelligencer’s 2015 Diverse Attorneys of the Year. A photo of Austin receiving that award can be found here.

Austin will be presented the 2015 Corporate Leadership Award by the Asian Pacific American Lawyers Association of New Jersey at their 30th Anniversary Awards Ceremony and Installation of Officers on June 30, 2015. Congratulations to Austin So!

Nominated by President and General Counsel of Heraeus Incorporated Yuri Rosenfeld, Austin has been selected as a finalist for the DELVACCA 2014 Corporate Counsel Excellence Award in the category of Outstanding In-House Counsel of the Year. He is one of three finalists that may be announced the winner of the Outstanding In-House Counsel of the Year during the 2014 DELVACCA Corporate Counsel Excellence Awards Dinner on Thursday, November 6, 2014, at the National Museum of American Jewish History in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
