Thanks to everyone who came out on February 26, 2014, to celebrate AABANY’s 25th anniversary with us at Cipriani Wall Street. More than 850 guests registered to attend, setting a new record. AABANY also reached its goal of exceeding 1,000 paid members. Mike Huang, in his Outgoing President’s speech, publicly announced the Don Liu Scholarship to award $15,000 to APA law students who apply and meet the requirements. Significant pledges have already been rolling in.

Congratulations to our 2014 honorees: AALDEF, recipient of the Public Advocacy Award; Randal Milch, GC of Verizon, recipient of the Corporate Counsel Leadership Award; and Vernon Jordan, recipient of the I4 (Icon, Ideals, Impact, Inspiration) Leadership Award. Congratulations also to Julie Kwon, our Mentor-Mentee Program Coordinator, for winning the AABANY MVP Award.

AABANY was joined by about 30 past honorees from past annual dinners. Each was brought up to the stage during the dinner for special recognition.

MSNBC reporter Richard Lui once again expertly took us through the proceedings as MC.

Guests continued to celebrate upstairs in the mezzanine during the after-party, with open bar and live DJ.

Happy 25th anniversary, AABANY, and we are looking forward to 2014 and the next quarter century!

With over 750 in attendance, last week’s Annual Dinner, held again at Cipriani Wall Street, shattered previous records. We thank everyone who attended, especially all the sponsors who came out to celebrate with us and to support AABANY’s mission. Thanks also to all the volunteers who helped to keep everything running smoothly. We thank Richard Lui of MSNBC for doing a great job as MC of the event. Congratulations to President Mike Huang and the entire Dinner Planning Committee for a job well done. What a way to kick off the Year of the Snake. Thanks to everyone for coming to AABANY’s 23rd Annual Dinner held on February 29, 2012.  For the second consecutive year it took place at Cipriani Wall Street.  We had over 600 attendees, including members and friends from all across the legal spectrum: attorneys in private practice, from firms large and small, global and local; judges; prosecutors; in-house counsel; and law students.  We were privileged to be joined by representatives of elected officials, Federal, State and local, along with bar leaders from the New York State Bar Association, KALAGNY, SABANY, MuBANY, the Puerto Rican Bar Association, and the Network of Bar Leaders.  We were pleased to be joined by our friends from AALDEF, MinKwon Center and the Asian American Arts Alliance (a4).  We were honored that the a4 President, Ravi Rajan, and a4 Executive Director, Andrea Louie, could be with us last night.

Congratulations to our honorees: Saru Jayaraman, recipient of our Emerging Leader Award; Sam Reeves, recipient of our Diversity Leadership Award; and Susan Blount, recipient of our Corporate Counsel Leadership Award.  Susan presented a wonderful keynote speech.

Congratulations to this year’s MVP Award recipient Ben “the Asian Sensation” Chan.  He gets his own blog post.  Why?  Well … he’s the Asian Sensation.  Need I say more?

Thanks to our MC Obaid Kadwani for keeping things moving along all through the evening.  We were sorry that illness struck Elie Mystal, who was supposed to be a co-MC with Obaid, and we wish a speedy recovery to Elie.

Corky Lee and Steven Wu shot photos all through the dinner and we will put up those photos soon. In the meantime, enjoy some photos from the evening (mostly from the after-party) in the slideshow above.
