AABANY Members: Please Complete Survey for CUNY Graduate Center Research Study on Second-Generation Chinese Americans

AABANY members have been invited to participate in a CUNY Graduate Center research study on second-generation Chinese Americans and their attitudes towards ethnic identity and New York City’s Chinatowns. If you identify as a child of Chinese immigrants, are between the ages of 18-35, and currently live in New York City, you are invited to take a 15-minute survey. You are also welcome to share this survey with any personal contacts who fit these criteria. The survey closes July 15. COVID-19 Rapid Needs Assessment Survey Now Available In Multiple Languages

Survey participation needed to better understand community needs during the pandemic.

NAPABA has partnered with the Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF) and the NYU Center for the Study of Asian American Health (CSAAH) to conduct a survey to learn more about the ongoing experiences and needs of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders living in the U.S. during the COVID-19 pandemic. Input from this survey will help develop resources and programs to support these communities. You can take the survey here and it will remain open until 1,000 responses are collected.

Purpose of the survey: We are trying to learn more about the current and ongoing experiences and needs of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Eligibility: (a) aged 18 or above; (b) self-identify as a(n) Asian American, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander; and (c) be a person living in the United States. 

Survey languages now available: English, Arabic, Bengali, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Chuukese, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Marshallese, Native Hawaiian, Nepali, Punjabi, Samoan, Tagalog, Tongan, Urdu, Vietnamese. 

You will receive an Amazon gift card as a token of thanks for your participation after the survey has been completed. If you are interested in receiving the gift card, you will be asked to complete a short form at the end of the survey link. No survey information will be linked with your personal information.

NAPABA’s 2019 Survey of Asian Pacific American Attorney/Law Student Bar Association: Become Eligible for NAPABA’s Raffle and Win!

The National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) is conducting a survey to assess Asian Pacific American attorney and law student engagement with bar associations and in particular affinity bar associations. The results of the survey will aid NAPABA in measuring our reach and effectiveness and assessing our priorities.

We need a few minutes of your time to complete a survey. Your feedback will help guide us as we strive to further NAPABA’s mission to:

  • Be the national voice for the Asian Pacific American legal profession;
  • Promote justice, equity, and opportunity for Asian Pacific Americans; and
  • Foster professional development, legal scholarship, advocacy, and community involvement.

With the 2018 Midterm Elections coming up, AABANY’s Community Response Task Force is focused on encouraging our own community to register and vote. Asian Americans as a whole have one of the lowest voter registration and turnout rates in the United States. Survey: Mapping Statelessness in the United States

Mapping Statelessness in the United States

The Project

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Center for Migration Studies (CMS) are conducting a research study about statelessness in the United States. The purpose of this study is to estimate the number of stateless people in the US, develop profiles of different stateless populations, and understand their experiences and legal situations. Researchers at Syracuse University are assisting with the collection and analysis of research data.

What is Statelessness?

The U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees defines a stateless person as anyone “not recognized as a national by any state under the operation of its law.” Because they do not hold the citizenship of any country, stateless people are often marginalized and prevented from accessing identification documents, education, and the ability to legally work.

How Can You Help?

We are reaching out to immigration service providers, advocates, and community-based organizations to help identify the number and situation of stateless people in the United States.

How will this information be used?

The results of our research study will be published in a report for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees. Using the results of this survey, along with other research including interviews and statistical analyses, this report will estimate the number of stateless people in the United States, provide geographic and demographic profiles of the U.S. stateless population, and recommend policy solutions to address statelessness in the United States.

Modern Courts is seeking your input on a survey about the NYS court system.

The Hon. Janet DiFiore, Chief Judge of the State of New York, announced an Excellence Initiative in February 2016. As stated on the Office of Court Administration website, “Chief Judge DiFiore wants to hear from members of the public, judges, jurors, litigants, attorneys and court employees.  The Excellence Initiative involves a detailed and comprehensive evaluation of current court processes and procedures to determine what is working well and what needs to be improved.”

Pro Bono Opportunity: Assist Immigrant Victims of Domestic Violence?

Immigrant victims of domestic violence face several obstacles to safety. In addition to cultural and language barriers, abusers may use immigration status or threat of deportation to assert power and control. Immigrant victims are also less likely to call the police out of fear of deportation. The Government Service & Public Interest Committee and Pro Bono & Community Service Committee of AABANY are launching a pilot pro bono project with Legal Services NYC.
