What’s a better way to spend a Saturday morning than helping the community? On Saturday, July 25th, AABANY’s Young Lawyers Committee teamed up with New York Cares to clean up Astoria Park. Members Rachel Yu, Angela Wang, David S. Sohn, Angela Li (intern) and the event leader Gabe Arce-Yee spent the day pulling out pesky weeds under the hot sun.
After a grueling workout, several water breaks, and a couple of pictures, the gardens were cleared. Even the strongest weeds were no match for the volunteers. It was both an arduous and rewarding experience. Despite the hard work, it was nice to give back to the community and make the gardens more enjoyable to the public. AABANY thanks the New York Cares Organization and Astoria Park Alliance for giving us an opportunity to volunteer.
Fun Fact: One of the gardens that we worked on was the Butterfly Garden. The flowers in the garden were specifically planted to attract butterflies.
