OPINION: Missed Opportunity In Supreme Court Nomination – Law360
Here is an interesting opinion piece from Law360, published on March 16, in which Lee Cheng, Chief Legal Officer of Newegg (and a speaker at AABANY’s 2015 Fall Conference in two separate programs) laments President Obama’s major missed opportunity in not seizing the historic chance to nominate an Asian Pacific American for the SCOTUS vacancy. What may be even more noteworthy is Lee’s recommendation that President Obama should have considered two other APAs for nomination who just happen to have been the honorees at AABANY’s 2016 Annual Dinner, which took place on February 24. Lee, we could not agree with you more. Both Ivan Fong and Michelle Lee would make great United States Supreme Court justices. And kudos to incoming President Susan Shin, who had the foresight to honor Ivan and Michelle at this year’s Annual Dinner, for having such a keen eye for spotting major judicial talent. (By the way, the actual nominee, Merrick Garland, was formerly a Partner at Susan’s firm, Arnold & Porter.)
