2016 Council of Korean Americans National Summit & Gala
During the CKA Gala & Awards Dinner on Friday, October 14, we will honor several exemplary individuals who represent the best of our community’s contributions to society. This year’s Public Servant Award honoree is US District Judge for the Northern District of California Lucy Koh.
Judge Koh has been nominated to serve on the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Described by President Barack Obama as “a first-rate jurist with unflagging integrity and evenhandedness,” Judge Koh truly exemplifies the best of Korean Americans in public service.
Judge Koh is the nation’s second-ever Korean American federal judge and would only be the second at the appellate court level if confirmed by the Senate. The first Korean American federal judge, Herbert Choy, also the first Asian American, was appointed to the federal court of appeals by President Nixon in 1971.
To put Judge Koh into further perspective, there are only 26 active Asian American federal court judges out of 871 who active, about three percent.
Join us on October 14 as we celebrate Judge Koh’s historic achievements and service to our nation.
