NJLJ Names First Annual Diverse Attorneys of the Year
Earlier this year, the Law Journal began seeking suggestions for
its first annual Diverse Attorneys of the Year honors. The response from
the legal community was immediate and enthusiastic, and it provided us
with a list of extremely accomplished and worthy attorneys from which to
choose. While the selection process was not easy, we feel this year’s
honorees indisputably are among the top legal talent in New Jersey.

Here’s a slideshow of some additional photos from the 2015 Fall Conference, Charting New Frontiers, held at Cleary Gottlieb on Sept. 19. It proved to be our biggest and best yet, with nearly 400 attendees, including speakers, employers and job seekers for the first Diversity Career Fair, and law students coming for the student-oriented programs. Each year Asian Americans for Equality organizes the only annual Asian American conference in
New York City to convene more than 250 policy makers, advocates, community leaders, philanthropists, and community development practitioners from across New York City and the country to discuss emerging issues facing Asian, Asian American, immigrant, and low-income communities.
The conference will feature a day full of panels and speakers.

NAPABA Announces Its 2015 Best Lawyers Under 40
WASHINGTON — The National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) has selected 14 attorneys to receive the 2015 Best Lawyers Under 40 Award (BU40). The BU40 recognizes talented individuals in the Asian Pacific American (APA) legal community who are under the age of 40 and have achieved prominence and distinction in their respective fields while demonstrating a strong commitment to the APA community at relatively early stages in their careers.
The BU40 Award will be presented on Nov. 5, 2015, during the 2015 NAPABA Convention in New Orleans, to the following recipients:
“These distinguished lawyers represent some of the best in their field under the age of 40,” said NAPABA President George C. Chen. “As these 14 men and women continue to make strides in their respective careers, the pipeline for national Asian Pacific American leaders in the legal profession appears bright.”
The 2015 class of honorees continues the BU40 legacy of excellence and leadership in both the legal and APA communities. This year’s BU40 honorees have vast and varied experiences — representing clients in nationwide high-stake and complex business litigation matters, investigating violations of federal securities laws, providing legal services to family and underrepresented farmers, serving as the senior counsel to a ranking member of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, and assistant general counsel for one of the nation’s oldest construction firms. NAPABA congratulates the 2015 Best Lawyers Under 40 award winners and looks forward to their future successes.

NAPABA congratulates the newly-elected officers of the NAPABA Board of Governors for the 2015-16 board year. They will be sworn into office at the Installation Banquet held on Nov. 7, 2015, during the 27th Annual NAPABA Convention in New Orleans.

The Korean American Lawyers Association of Greater New York (“KALAGNY”) is pleased to announce its 2015-2016 KALAGNY Mentorship Program. This will be the seventh annual edition of this program, and it has become a model for several similar programs around the United States.
KALAGNY is seeking practicing attorneys who graduated from law school in
2011 or earlier to join as mentors and offer their wisdom and experience to our
law student and less experienced attorney members. All current law student
members and attorneys who graduated from law school in 2012 or later are
invited to sign up as mentees. All participants must be dues-paying members of KALAGNY in good standing. Please register here to join this year’s program.
The Mentorship Program has steadily grown each year since its inception, from
about 55 participants in 2009-2010 to nearly 170 participants in 2013-2014.
Our mentors include judges, prosecutors, in-house attorneys, public interest
attorneys, lawyers from large, medium and small firms and solo practitioners.
Our mentees have included law students from every law school in the Greater
New York area and young attorneys in a variety of practices.
Our program is designed to provide law students and new attorneys access to
a broad network of attorneys who have volunteered their time to share their
wisdom and insight into the day to day practice of law and broader career issues and goals.
The program includes both formal and informal events throughout the year
to foster the mentoring relationship and to help participants get to know one
another. These include a formal reception, a KALAGNY-subsidized dinner for
each group, a picnic, and a resume and interviewing workshop. We also strongly encourage our mentors and mentees to set up their own meetings and to stay in touch by email, telephone, and in person.
Registration is now open for our 2015-16 Mentorship Program. For

Our formal mentorship reception, during which we introduce our mentors and
mentees will be announced shortly. Registration for the Program will include the
opportunity to RSVP for the reception. Only program participants may attend this reception.
