The Chinese Chamber of Commerce (CCC) will work with Asian American Bar Association of New York (AABANY) to provide a series of free legal advice clinics for Chinese Americans. Consultation service will be conducted on the second Wednesday of each month. These clinics will cover various topics including family issues, housing, and immigration.
CCC and AABANY announced details of the clinics in a press conference held on January 9, 2017. Each clinic will be conducted on the second Wednesday of each month, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, in Suit C-202, Confucius Plaza, 33 Bowery. The first clinic was held on January 11, 2017.
There is no need to make an appointment. Participants need to arrive between 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm and bring the relevant documents so that lawyers can handle the problem smoothly.
Keqiao Li, Chairman of CCC, stated CCC aims to serve Chinese Americans and is pleased to work with AABANY to help Chinese Americans with their legal problems. Jinshan Yu, Executive Director of CCC, said many Chinese Americans have legal problems and they do not know where to get help; these clinics would be great opportunities for those who need legal help.
Yang Chen, Executive Director of AABANY, sated AABANY has nearly a thousand of members and is pleased to work with CCC to offer the free legal clinics. Attorney Huoliang [Sam] Lui stated that four to six attorneys will be present for each clinic.
Qichao Huang, the lawyer who facilitated the cooperation between the two organizations, is also the Director of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, a Unit of CCC. He pointed out that legal assistance is in an urgent need for Chinese Americans to protect their legal rights and interests. He further expressed his gratitude to AABANY for providing volunteer attorneys and to CCC for providing a convenient location.

NEW YORK – January 5, 2017 – The Asian American Bar Association of New York (“AABANY”) is proud to announce that it is continuing its pro bono legal clinic in partnership with the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of NY, Inc. (“CCCNY”) at 33 Bowery Street. Launched in December 2015, AABANY’s legal clinics have served members of the Chinatown community free of charge on a variety of legal issues, including housing and immigration.
The pro bono legal clinic takes place on the second Wednesday of every month from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Appointments are currently walk-in only at the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of NY, Inc. at 33 Bowery, Suite C202. Those seeking legal assistance should arrive by 8pm and bring all documents pertaining to their legal issues. The next pro bono legal clinic takes place on January 11, 2017.
