On November 12, 2025, AABANY hosted another installment of its popular Dumplings & Discussion series, featuring Michelle Lee, General Counsel at MediaCo. The event drew a diverse group of attorneys and law students for an evening filled with candid conversation, career inspiration, community building, and, of course, delicious dumplings.
Moderated by AABANY Board Director Jeffrey Mok, the discussion explored Michelle’s remarkable journey through the legal profession. She reflected on her path to becoming General Counsel, sharing insights on mentorship, resilience, and embracing new challenges. Her thoughtful reflections offered both practical guidance and encouragement to aspiring legal professionals navigating their own career paths.
Following the conversation, attendees gathered for a networking reception, continuing the dialogue over plates of dumplings. The evening fostered connection, mentorship, and the exchange of shared experiences among members of the legal community.

On October 16, 2025, AABANY’s Corporate Law Committee, In-House Counsel Committee, Mentorship Committee, and Government Service and Public Interest Committee, in collaboration with Citizens Private Bank, held Pickleball Night at Gotham Pickle (5-25 46th Ave., Long Island City, New York 11101). The event brought together professionals and AABANY members for an evening of networking, community building, and fun competition and conversation.
The event welcomed both seasoned players and first-time pickleball enthusiasts, creating an inclusive atmosphere where attendees learned together and competed in friendly matches. The event provided a unique opportunity for members to connect outside the traditional professional setting, while enjoying one of the fastest-growing sports in the country.
Brandon Martinez from Gotham Pickle coached our group and taught us about the no-volley zone or the “kitchen,” serving in doubles, the two-bounce rule, keeping score, and best practices and strategy to win a rally.
Throughout the evening, the players rotated between courts and teams to allow for a mix of playing experience and so that people were able to meet new people, helping to foster meaningful connections among peers from diverse practice areas and career stages. Each game went to 11, and the players with the most wins reached the finals.

On the evening of October 9, 2025, AABANY’s Solo and Small Firm Practice (SSFP) Committee hosted a lively happy hour at Cha Cha Tang, bringing together solo and small firm practitioners, in-house counsel, aspiring small firm practitioners, and others for an evening of networking, community, and good food. Although titled “Solo and Small Firm Practice Committees Happy Hour,” the event drew a wide mix of participants. The energy in the room reflected the entrepreneurial spirit that defines the SSFP Committee.
Attendees enjoyed a delicious spread of shared plates, including potstickers, shumai, shrimp dumplings, scallion pancakes, and more. The cozy atmosphere of Cha Cha Tang provided the perfect setting for meaningful conversations, new connections, and the exchange of experience amongst a wide range of attendees.

The Asian American Bar Association of New York (AABANY) brought together attorneys for a night of fun and networking on October 3, 2025, as the Young Lawyers Committee teamed up with the Solo & Small Firm Practice Committee to host a lively social at Puttery. Guests enjoyed imaginative mini-golf courses while connecting with colleagues in a relaxed, playful setting.
The event offered young practitioners and solo attorneys alike a chance to build meaningful relationships outside the courtroom, blending professional networking with a creative twist. It was a perfect way to kick off the fall season with camaraderie and community.

On August 14, 2025, AABANY’s LGBTQ, Solo and Small Firm Practice, and Student Outreach Committees hosted a Popcorn Chicken and Bubble Tea Social event at Anderson & Associates in Lower Manhattan. AABANY members, attorneys, law students, interns, and all participants were able to enjoy a variety of snacks from popcorn chicken, takoyaki, and buns to tea and traditional boba. Everyone enjoyed the opportunity to meet both new and familiar faces, and all attendees made good use of the time to network and chat.
The Chairs and Co-Chairs of each co-sponsoring Committee, Gregory Hom, Yen-Yi Anderson, and Albert Tong shared their upcoming events and encouraged everyone to continue attending similar events in the future by checking AABANY’s calendar. On July 24, 2025, AABANY’s Labor & Employment Law Committee hosted a Sip & Social event at Turntable Chicken Jazz in Koreatown. AABANY members and non-members alike, including current law students and working professionals, came together to chat about everything from the impact of artificial intelligence in the legal space to recent challenges in the labor and employment law practice area. Attendees also caught up with both new and familiar faces at the event while sipping on beer and soju, and enjoying Korean fried chicken, spicy rice cakes, and other small Korean dishes.
The Labor & Employment Law Committee aims to host regular “Sip & Social” events to allow members to engage and connect over shared interests. On Monday, July 28, AABANY’s Intellectual Property Committee gathered for its monthly dinner, this time over a flavorful Korean meal at Ziggle Tofu & Grill. Located in the heart of Manhattan, the restaurant offered a cozy space for members to unwind, connect, and enjoy a variety of Korean comfort dishes.
The table quickly filled with bubbling tofu stews, sizzling BBQ platters, and side dishes passed around family-style. With food at the center, conversations flowed easily—from recent developments in AI and IP law to summer travel plans.
These monthly dinners have become a highlight for the Committee, offering a relaxed setting to build community outside of the typical networking events and panel discussions. For newer members and first-time attendees, it was a great way to get involved and meet others with shared interests.

On Wednesday, July 23, AABANY’s Commercial Bankruptcy & Restructuring Committee partnered with Restructuring and Insolvency Network New York (RAINY) to host a Summer Happy Hour at Albert’s Bar in Midtown Manhattan.
Over 30 professionals from both the legal and business sides of restructuring came together over drinks to network, catch up with colleagues, and meet new faces in the field. The crowd was filled with a range of people, from journalists studying for the LSAT to business school graduates with long-standing careers in restructuring.
Alex Xiao, the organizer from RAINY, described the mixer as a simple but meaningful way to connect people across the industry. The strong turnout and energetic atmosphere proved just how valuable these informal gatherings can be.
