Congratulations to Karen Wu, NYSBA Outstanding Young Lawyer

Karen Wu, Co-Chair of AABANY’s Pro Bono and Community Service Committee, has been recognized by the New York State Bar Association as an Outstanding Young Lawyer.   As stated by NYSBA’s Young Lawyers Section:

Each year the Young Lawyers Section of the New York State Bar Association honors a young lawyer who has rendered outstanding service to both the community and legal profession. The Outstanding Young Lawyer Award recognizes an attorney who has actively practiced less than 10 years, and has a distinguished record of commitment to the finest traditions of the Bar through public service and professional activities.

Free Legal Help for Artists

PRO BONO LEGAL SUPPORT 

The New York Foundation for the Arts and New York State Bar Association’s Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law Committee (EASL) have partnered to provide pro bono legal help for low-income artists and arts organizations. EASL will be offering a legal clinic at NYFA free of charge for those who qualify for pro bono legal consultation on Thursday, November 17th, from 4:00pm- 7:00pm. The pro bono attorneys can offer advice on various arts-related issues such as intellectual property, nonprofit, and contract questions.

Immigration Law Training for Non-Immigration Lawyers

AILA (American Immigration Lawyers Association) is leading an effort to train non-immigration lawyers how to assist victims of immigration fraud.  Federal, state and local authorities have been cracking down on “notarios” and others engaged in the unauthorized practice of law, resulting in many immigrants needing pro bono assistance from lawyers who can help them with their matters.  The two-day intensive training session at the City Bar takes place on August 17 and 18 in the evenings.  The training session is the first step of a major clinical initiative to connect underserved immigrants with appropriate pro bono legal assistance.  If you are interested, follow this link for additional details and the registration form.  Registration deadline is August 12.
