SDNY NOTICE: SDNY Accepting Applications for Magistrate Judge
The United States District Court for the Southern District of New York has announced a vacancy for a full-time U.S. Magistrate Judge position in the White Plains courthouse. The SDNY’s public notice, which contains additional information about the position and the application, is available on the court’s website at www.nysd.uscourts.gov. EASTERN AND SOUTHERN DISTRICTS ADOPT REVISIONS TO JOINT LOCAL CIVIL RULE 54.1, REQUEST COMMENT BY APRIL 5
The United States District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York have adopted revisions to Local Civil Rule 54.1. The revisions are available at https://www.nyed.uscourts.gov/ or www.nysd.uscourts.gov; they are also attached to this e-mail.
Prior to the revised rules taking effect, the public is invited to comment. Comments are to be submitted in writing on or at the close of business on Friday, April 5, 2013 to either:

The revisions will become effective upon approval by the Second Circuit Judicial Council.
Public Notice for Reappointment of Incumbent Magistrate Judge
The current term of the office of United States Magistrate Judge Kevin N. Fox is due to expire on October 1, 2013. The United States District Court is required by law to establish a panel of citizens to consider the reappointment of a magistrate judge to a new eight year term.
The duties of a magistrate judge position include the following: (1) conduct of most preliminary proceedings in criminal cases; (2) trial and disposition of misdemeanor cases; (3) conduct of various pretrial matters and evidentiary proceedings on delegation from the judges of the district court; and (4) trial and disposition of civil cases upon consent of the litigants.
Comments from members of the bar and the public are invited as to whether the incumbent magistrate judge should be recommended by the panel for reappointment by the court, and should be directed to:

USCIS Teleconference: Use of Interpreters in USCIS Interview
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) invites interested parties to participate in a stakeholder teleconference on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. (Eastern) to discuss the use of interpreters in USCIS domestic field office interviews.
During this engagement, USCIS will outline its current guidance related to the use of interpreters and discuss anticipated policy development regarding the use of interpreters at USCIS domestic field office interviews. The discussion will focus on who may be eligible to serve as an interpreter and we will seek stakeholder feedback on possible exceptions to this general policy.
