Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI) was in town for the Women’s Senate Network 2013 Policy Conference and while she was here, she took a moment out of her busy schedule on Monday morning, November 18, to meet with some of AABANY’s leaders. Women’s Committee Co-Chairs Naf Kwun and Sapna Palla, Immigration and Nationality Law Committee Co-Chair Tsui Yee and Executive Director Yang Chen sat down for breakfast with the Senator.

In a free flowing and wide-ranging conversation, Senator Hirono shared with AABANY’s leaders her thoughts about increasing civic engagement and participation by APAs in politics and the political process, immigration reform and increasing diversity on the bench. Senator Hirono introduced the AABANY group to EMILY’s List as a resource to help train future political candidates to run for office.

Senator Hirono urges AABANY members to step up and get involved in politics as a way to make an impact in our communities.

We look forward to remaining in contact with Senator Hirono and finding ways to work together with her to advance and serve our APA communities.
