Congratulations to Hon. Denny Chin, the recipient of the Hon. George Bundy Smith Pioneer Award, to be presented by the New York State Bar Association’s Commercial and Federal Litigation Section on April 1, 2015 at the Lincoln Center for Performing Arts during the “Smooth Moves 2015: Career Strategies for Attorneys of Color” event. Hon. George Bundy Smith was the first recipient of the award in 2007, and since then, the award has gone to an individual who demonstrates a commitment to excellence and a pioneering effort towards bettering the practice of law. Please join us in congratulating Judge Chin.

  • Do you have a passion for the rich history and culture of Chinese Americans and the community?
  • Are you well versed in the immigrant history of Chinese in America, perhaps your own family or that of a friend with experiences you can share?
  • Have you taught Asian American studies or Immigration history?

We are looking for enthusiastic, imaginative, and knowledgeable members and friends of AABANY to volunteer for 2 hour shifts on March 28 or April 4 as unofficial exhibit docents at the New York Historical Society.

NAPABA Intellectual Property Committee Seeking Submissions

The Publications Subcommittee of the NAPABA Intellectual Property Committee is seeking submissions to publish in a quarterly newsletter.  Potential types of submissions include:

1)      Legal topics pertaining to IP, such as patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets and the prosecution/enforcement/monetization thereof, in the U.S. or other countries (e.g., analysis/discussion of a particular practice area, trend, court decision, practice pointers, etc.).  Currently, priority will be given to submissions pertaining to licensing and technology transactions.

2)      New administrative decisions/rules/guidelines/programs, such as at the USPTO or other patent offices (e.g., fee changes, guidelines in response to a court decision, pilot programs).

3)      Achievements & career-related news of APA professionals (e.g., honors, awards, recognitions, speaking engagements, promotions, job changes).

4)      Upcoming & recent IP events (e.g., IP events hosted or notably attended by Asian professional organizations and/or Asian law student associations).

Preferably, the length of a submission will be 1000 words or less.  Submitters are also invited to optionally include a profile photo and/or a brief bio (for submission types 1-3 above) and/or a recent event photo (for submission types 3-4 above) for publication.  Please email submissions and/or questions to Alex Chang at [email protected], Srikant Viswanadham at[email protected], and John Gray at [email protected] by June 1, 2015.
