On Sunday, January 15, AABANY joined with basketball fans from AAAYA (Association of Asian American Yale Alumni), Apex for Youth, Asian Ivy League, Binghamton University Asian and Asian American Alumni Council, CAAA (Cornell Asian Alumni Association), FF Fraternity, Harvard Asian American Alumni Association, Harvard Business School Asian American Alumni Association (HBS4A), and Wellesley Asian Alumni Association (W3A) to catch the Brooklyn Nets facing off against the Houston Rockets at the Barclays Center. It was Taiwanese Heritage Night, and we were hoping to catch Jeremy Lin playing against his former teammates, but Jeremy was sidelined due to injury. The closest our fans could get to him was the bobblehead that was given out to the first 10,000 spectators to arrive.

The Nets were only a few points behind the Rockets at the half, but in the third quarter, the Rockets blasted ahead of them and by the fourth quarter, the Rockets’ lead widened considerably. It was a loss for the hometown team, but our group managed to have a good time anyway.

Originally, we had planned a post-game reception at 40/40 Club but upon arriving there, we were diverted to the Billboard Lounge. A large group of us headed down there, harboring hopes of possibly getting a meet-and-greet with Jeremy Lin. Alas, it was not to be. Still, our group continued to socialize over drinks and food.

Thanks to everyone who joined us. We hope to do more sports outings in the future, so stay tuned! (Photo credit for group photo to Mike Lawrence. All other photos courtesy of AABANY.)
