On June 7, AABANY’s Labor & Employment Law Committee gathered for an intimate dinner discussion with Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Commissioner Jenny R. Yang and former National Labor Relations Board Member Kent Hirozawa. Jenny R. Yang is a Commissioner of the EEOC. She began as a Commissioner on May 13, 2013 and was unanimously confirmed by the Senate to serve a term ending July 1, 2017. Kent Hirozawa was nominated by President Obama and confirmed by the Senate in 2013 for a term as a Member of the NLRB that expired in 2013. He is now a visiting scholar at NYU School of Law.
Over dim sum and tea, Jenny and Kent commented on labor and employment developments in the new administration. Speaking to the EEOC’s recent practice of gathering information, Jenny spoke about trying to better understand and quantify the struggles of women partners and Asian Americans in the workplace. Furthermore, she and Kent both offered personal advice and insights into what it means to succeed as an Asian American lawyer.
Thank you to Jenny Yang and Kent Hirozawa not only for joining us for dinner, but also for their service and dedication to the public interest. We would like thank AABANY Labor and Employment Law Committee Co-Chair Joane Wong for presenting the rare opportunity to speak intimately and candidly to such accomplished lawyers.
