On November 16, Hon. Denny Chin, United States Circuit Judge for the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, hosted a delegation of prosecutors from Shanghai, China. Judge Chin spoke to the visitors about the Federal judicial system and his experiences as an Asian American judge. The delegation was interested to hear about how American courts dealt with financial crimes and was particularly keen to learn about the Madoff case, which Judge Chin presided over as a United States District Court judge.
Judge Chin took the delegation on a tour through the Thurgood Marshall Courthouse at 40 Foley Square, including a visit to the judges’ robing room and to his chambers, which had once belonged to Thurgood Marshall himself. Judge Chin shared mementos such as his grandfather’s citizenship certificate and a photo of him and his family as they left Hong Kong when he was 2 years old.
AABANY was privileged to be able to arrange this visit with the delegation of Shanghai prosecutors. They were thoroughly delighted by the informative and memorable tour. Margaret Ling, co-chair of the Asia Practice Committee, and Executive Director Yang Chen represented AABANY. We thank Judge Chin for being an excellent and gracious host.
