Congratulations to Karen Wu, NYSBA Outstanding Young Lawyer

Karen Wu, Co-Chair of AABANY’s Pro Bono and Community Service Committee, has been recognized by the New York State Bar Association as an Outstanding Young Lawyer.   As stated by NYSBA’s Young Lawyers Section:

Each year the Young Lawyers Section of the New York State Bar Association honors a young lawyer who has rendered outstanding service to both the community and legal profession. The Outstanding Young Lawyer Award recognizes an attorney who has actively practiced less than 10 years, and has a distinguished record of commitment to the finest traditions of the Bar through public service and professional activities.

NYSBA Antitrust Section Seeks Diverse Attorneys

The New York State Bar Association’s Antitrust Section is seeking to diversify its membership and invites APA attorneys and law students to join the section. As part of this outreach, the section will pay for the registration fees associated with attending its annual meeting day program and evening events on January 26, 2012. ANNOUNCES 2012 GRANTS NOW AVAILABLE

The Association is pleased to announce that thanks to donations from several New York law firms, individuals, and support from the New York Bar Foundation, we are able to provide financial assistance to selected public service attorneys to encourage them to remain in public service careers. The application deadline is November 30, 2011. Recipients will be announced in January, during the NYSBA Annual Meeting. Free Legal Help for Artists

PRO BONO LEGAL SUPPORT 

The New York Foundation for the Arts and New York State Bar Association’s Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law Committee (EASL) have partnered to provide pro bono legal help for low-income artists and arts organizations. EASL will be offering a legal clinic at NYFA free of charge for those who qualify for pro bono legal consultation on Thursday, November 17th, from 4:00pm- 7:00pm. The pro bono attorneys can offer advice on various arts-related issues such as intellectual property, nonprofit, and contract questions.

AABANY Leaders’ Speaking Engagements in October

We would like to recognize several AABANY leaders who will be speaking at various bar association programs this month.

  • Thursday, Oct. 13, Executive Director Yang Chen speaks at the New York State Conference of Bar Leaders Fall 2011 Workshop: “Leading Lawyers,” in the program on “Social Networking Part IV – Digging Deeper.”
  • Wednesday, Oct. 19, Solo and Small Firm Committee Co-Chair Pauline Yeung-Ha will speak at NYSBA Trust and Estate Law Section Diversity Committee’s program “Breaking it Down: the Nuts and Bolts of Estate Planning and Administration.” Pauline will speak on “How to Administer the Estate” on day two (October 19), during the Estate Administration portion of the two-day event (the first day is October 12).
