Here are some of the photos from the 2017 NAPABA National Convention which took place from Nov. 2-5 at the Marriott Marquis in Washington, DC, attended by many AABANY members and which featured many of them as speakers or moderators on various panels.

We will follow up with a more detailed post later, but for now, we congratulate all the award recipients from New York, including Board Member Jung Choi being named one of NAPABA’s Best Under 40, Parkin Lee, named as a Sen. Daniel K. Inouye Trailblazer Award honoree, and Hon. Doris Ling Cohan who received the Women’s Leadership Award.

Also, we thank Kathy Hirata Chin and Hon. Denny Chin for leading the AABANY Trial Reenactment Team through our eleventh production, “Fred Korematsu and His Fight for Justice.” This performance was made particularly moving and forceful through the participation of Dale Minami, Neal Katyal and Karen Korematsu playing themselves.

Dale was part of the legal team that fought successfully to overturn Fred Korematsu’s conviction back in the 1980s. Neal Katyal was the Acting Solicitor General who issued that office’s confession of error in 2011 for defending the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II. Karen Korematsu is Fred’s daughter. She leads the Korematsu Institute and carries on her father’s work of fighting for social justice and upholding the principles of the U.S. Constitution for all.

Congratulations to NAPABA on the record-breaking attendance with some 2000 attorneys this year and thanks to APABA-DC for playing host to APA attorneys from all across the country.
