Announcing Hamro (Our) Nepal: International Benefit Concert

New York, NY May 6, 2015. The Gurung Society, in partnership with the India China
Institute, The New School, Adhikaar, and other community-based organizations, presents
Hamro (Our) Nepal: International Benefit Concert on Saturday, May 16th, 8:00 – 10:30
PM at the Tishman Auditorium (63 Fifth Avenue), The New School, New York City.

The event is dedicated to the people of Nepal with the aim of raising awareness about
Nepal & the Himalayas, strengthening community, and raising funds for rebuilding efforts
in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake of April 25th, 2015. With Hamro (Our)
Nepal we turn to the healing power of art and music as a way to express our sorrow and
rejuvenate our sense of collective humanity. The evening will be carefully curated to allow
for reflection, presence and imagination through music, dance, art and photography. This
event will be live-streamed worldwide, bringing together our global community in
recognition that WE ARE ONE!

Hamro Nepal will convene a renowned constellation of artists, dancers, writers, thinkers,
scholars, poets and community leaders from Nepal and around the world. Grammy Award
Winner Dan Zanes, along with bands Red Baraat, Tuelo & Her Cousins, and Little Silver will
perform. In addition, Nepali artists Shyam Nepali, Raju Lama, Sapana Shree, Nima Rumba,
and Raj Kapoor will be featured along with traditional Nepali dances and very special
surprise guests.

To express their solidarity, fashion designer Prabal Gurung, writer Manjushree Thapa,
academic Mahendra Lawoti, journalist Prashant Jha, former Special Representative of the
UN Secretary General in Nepal Ian Martin, former Indian ambassador and academic S.D.
Muni, and photographer Kevin Bubriski will be present.

Please join us for this one-of-a-kind evening to gather, heal and strengthen our collective
resolve through music and art, so that together we may help Nepal rise again.

The devastation is beyond imaginable. The effort to provide relief and support rebuilding
requires massive generosity. No amount of donation is too small. Your contributions will be
used to help rebuild rural areas most affected by the earthquake.

On behalf of the Gurung Society, this effort is co-led by Professor Ashok Gurung, Senior
Director of the India China Institute at The New School, and Rina Gurung, Legal Fellow at
