On December 16, our Pro Bono & Community Service (PBCS) Committee held a free legal services clinic at the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association. Volunteer attorneys assisted elderly and disabled community members complete applications for Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption (SCRIE) and Disability Rent Increase Exemption (DRIE).

PBCS Co-Chair Samuel Lui led the training for the 8 volunteers, some of whom acted as interpreters for the clients. Volunteers helped 6 people complete SCRIE applications. The remaining clients received advice on their various legal issues. The clinic helped a total of 14 people. Government Service & Public Interest (GSPI) Committee Co-Chair Anita conducted an impromptu presentation on SCRIE for additional walk-ins.

Thank you to the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association for hosting and publicizing this event for the community. Thank you to our Pro Bono & Community Service Committee for organizing this important clinic for the community. Special thanks to PBCS Co-Chair June Lee, PBCS Co-Chair Samuel Lui, and GSPI Co-Chair Anita Wu without whom the clinic would not be possible.
