On Friday, March 16, 2018, AABANY’s Government Service & Public Interest (“GSPI”) and Pro Bono Committees co-sponsored a Know-Your-Rights tax training for the public at the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association (“CCBA”) in Chinatown.  The presenter was attorney Rachel Sun, a tax specialist at Queens Legal Services (Legal Services of New York).  The presentation was given in Mandarin accompanied by translation in Cantonese.

The event was jointly organized by AABANY and the Asian Health & Social Service Council Inc (“AHSSC”) for community members to learn more about the changes to the tax laws that were recently passed by Congress.  The lead organizers for the event were AHSSC President Eva Wong and GSPI co-chair Jonathan Hernandez.   Over 40 members from the community attended this midday event to learn more about the changes in the new tax laws and how they may be affected.  Several members of the press were also present including SinoVision.

The GSPI Committee will be having more Know-Your-Rights trainings in the upcoming year. If you are interested in either presenting at a future Know-Your-Rights event or would like to suggest an area of law to be covered, please contact GSPI co-chair Jonathan Hernandez at [email protected].
