From USCIS: Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) Program

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) invites interested individuals to participate in a stakeholder teleconference on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, from 1 p.m. to 3p.m. (Eastern).

During the teleconference, subject matter experts from the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) Program will provide stakeholders with a program updates regarding near-term system enhancements and the new SAVE Case Check service for state and local benefit granting agencies and their customers.

Federal law requires every employer and agricultural recruiter/referrer-for-a-fee hiring an individual for employment in the US to verify his or her identity and employment authorization through completion of Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification.
US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has a website dedicated to this process including:

Do you know that you can use Employment Verification (E-Verify) Self Check now? Self Check is a service of E-Verify. It is a free, Internet-based application that can be used by anyone in the U.S. over the age of 16 to confirm his or her employment eligibility. The service is available nationwide. After you enter a small amount of information, the Self Check service will check that information against various government databases to determine your work eligibility in the United States.

USCIS Teleconference: USCIS Immigrant Fee

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) invites interested individuals to participate in one of two stakeholder teleconferences on:

We will discuss the implementation of the USCIS Immigrant Fee. The same engagement will be held at two different times to accommodate participants domestically and abroad.

On Sept. 24, 2010, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) published in the Federal Register a Final Rule that adjusted fees for immigration applications and petitions. This rule established a new fee of $165 for certain immigrant visas. This fee was introduced to allow USCIS to recover the costs of processing immigrant visas in the United States after immigrant visa holders receive their visa packages from the Department of State (DOS). Beginning Feb. 1, 2013, any individual who receives an immigrant visa package from a United States consulate or embassy must pay this fee. In order to simplify and centralize the payment process, immigrant visa holders must pay online through the USCIS website after they receive their visa package from DOS and before they depart for the United States. Immigrant visa holders will receive specific information on how to submit their payment when they receive their visa package from DOS.

During this engagement, USCIS will discuss who will be required to pay the fee, explain how payments will be remitted, and answer additional questions.

USCIS Teleconference: Use of Interpreters in USCIS Interview

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) invites interested parties to participate in a stakeholder teleconference on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. (Eastern) to discuss the use of interpreters in USCIS domestic field office interviews.

During this engagement, USCIS will outline its current guidance related to the use of interpreters and discuss anticipated policy development regarding the use of interpreters at USCIS domestic field office interviews. The discussion will focus on who may be eligible to serve as an interpreter and we will seek stakeholder feedback on possible exceptions to this general policy.

USCIS Electronic Immigration System

On May 22, 2012, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) launched the first phase of our new electronic immigration system, known as USCIS ELIS. This new system brings the agency closer to realizing the web-based future of immigration services. Currently, USCIS ELIS is available for individuals who need to file a stand-alone Application to Extend/Change Nonimmigrant Status (Form I-539). Future releases will add form types and functions to the system, gradually expanding to cover all USCIS immigration benefits. More information about USCIS ELIS is available at www.uscis.gov/uscis-elis.

USCIS welcomes feedback from customers and stakeholders on USCIS ELIS and is hosting a series of engagements to share updates and discuss users’ experiences with the system. The conversation at each engagement will focus upon the following topics:

·        An overview of USCIS ELIS and recent updates;
·        How to electronically file a benefit request using USCIS ELIS; and
·        Customer feedback regarding their experiences with USCIS ELIS

USCIS presents E-Verify: “Know Your Rights: Employee Rights and Responsibilities”

USCIS presents E-Verify: “Know Your Rights: Employee Rights and Responsibilities”

On Nov. 9, 2011 at 3:30 p.m. EST, USCIS will conduct a national Spanish-language public engagement and will discuss the USCIS E-Verify “Know Your Rights: Employee Rights and Responsibilities” campaign and highlight the agency’s translation of E-Verify website content into Spanish.

The event will be broadcast live from USCIS Headquarters in Washington DC. Individuals may participate via teleconference or Web stream.

USCIS Announces Entrepreneurs in Residence Initiative

On October 11, 2001, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced an initiative on its website:

WASHINGTON – US. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Director Alejandro Mayorkas joined the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness in Pittsburgh to announce “Entrepreneurs in Residence."  This new innovative initiative will utilize industry expertise to strengthen USCIS policies and practices surrounding immigrant investors, entrepreneurs and workers with specialized skills, knowledge, or abilities.  Mayorkas announced the initiative at the Jobs Council’s High Growth Entrepreneurship Listening and Action Session at AlphaLab in Pittsburgh before the Council’s Quarterly meeting with President Obama.
