On Thursday, September 12, Vinoo Varghese spoke on “Best Practices for Responding to Possible Violations – Reporting and Remediating Misconduct.” The “Violations” referred to breaches of Sarbanes-Oxley, Dodd-Frank, and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. This panel was part of the “2013 Corporate Whistleblowing Forum” sponsored by Thomson Reuters. It was done in the form of a long hypothetical regarding FCPA, Dodd-Frank, and Sarbanes-Oxley. Consistent with these three laws, the panel focused on various ways to implement the best internal corporate practices.
Through the hypo, Vinoo specifically spoke on conducting a proper internal investigation that protected the company, while respecting the whistleblower, thus reducing the risks for an SEC or DOJ finding against the company.
Vinoo is the principal attorney at Varghese & Associates, P.C., a criminal and asset forfeiture defense firm he founded in 2006. Vinoo is an active member of AABANY and serves on the Board as a Director.
