On Friday, November 1st, AABANY’s Government Service & Public Interest (GSPI) Committee presented a community event, “Know Your Rights: Landlord/Tenant Forum” to a packed house at the United Chinese Association of Brooklyn’s Senior Center. The featured speaker was Charlie Liu, Associated Court Attorney at NYC Housing Court, who presented an engaging seminar, with Cantonese translation adeptly provided by AABANY intern, Stephanie Yu, on a wide variety of topics important to the aging community including housing rights in different types of buildings, how to apply for government-subsidized senior housing, how to navigate housing court and utilize resources available for elderly tenants, and how to get repairs through housing court. Charlie took questions and answers after the presentation, which was followed by a lunch for the seniors in attendance, underwritten by the GSPI Committee.
Thanks to Karen Yau, YuJin Hong and Katrina Goyco for organizing this community event. To learn more about the Committee and its work, contact co-chairs Karen Yau and YuJin Hong at [email protected].
