On Wednesday, January 22, 2014, AABANY’s Labor & Employment Law Committee held its kick-off event, “Employment Law Update 2014” at the New York offices of Seyfarth Shaw. Twenty-three (23) employment law practitioners attended the program, including representatives from the National Labor Relations Board, U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and New York State Department of Labor. Program speakers included Hema Chatlani (Littler Mendelson), Jane Chung (Gladstein, Reif & Menginniss LLP), Michael Yim (Wong & Fleming) and Joane Wong (National Labor Relations Board). The panelists discussed New York City’s recently enacted paid sick leave law and pregnant workers fairness act; restaurant delivery workers improperly denied tips ordered via food websites; hot trends in non-compete laws; and recent NLRB decisions and policies regarding use of social media in the workplace. The program was moderated by William Ng (Littler Mendelson), Co-Chair of AABANY’s Labor & Employment Law Committee. The Labor & Employment Law Committee will be having another meeting in February to prepare for its next event during Chinatown Restaurant Week.
