Speakers and attendees braved the freak thunderstorm on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 to gather at Fulbright & Jaworski for the panel on Intellectual Property 101 for Journalists sponsored by AABANY’s IP Committee and the Asian American Journalists Association of New York. The speakers stepped through fundamental copyright, right of publicity, trademark, and social media issues, focusing on best practices journalists should adopt to avoid infringing third-party intellectual property rights, and how intellectual property laws protect journalists’ own work. A lively Q&A session followed the panel presentation, during which attendees sought the panelists’ insights on the do’s and don’ts of on-the-job journalistic practices. All enjoyed the delectable selection of hors d’oeuvres, wine, and beer provided by our host, courtesy of Fulbright partner and AABANY IP Committee member Gina Shishima.
