On Saturday, March 1, MinKwon Center, in partnership with AABANY and Open Hands Legal Services, held a legal clinic to provide free legal assistance in immigration matters to community members in Manhattan Chinatown at 227 Bowery.
In total, we served 26 clients, including both walk-ins (15 walk-ins) and by appointment (11 pre-scheduled clients). Some of the clients were provided assistance with their citizenship applications while others were provided consultations. Of the 26 clients, 15 clients received assistance with their citizenship application and 11 of those 15 were completed. MinKwon Center will contact the 4 incomplete applicants and schedule another appointment for them. The remaining 11 of the 26 clients who did not receive direct assistance with their citizenship applications received immigration-related consultations.
A total of 30 volunteers came out, 20 in the morning and 10 in the afternoon.
AABANY thanks all the volunteers for giving up their Saturday to help our Chinatown community in Manhattan with their immigration questions.
Stay tuned for upcoming opportunities to work with MinKwon on similar community clinics. For more information, please contact our Pro Bono and Community Service Committee at [email protected] or Government Service and Public Interest Committee at [email protected].
